It’s been a while since I’ve put pen to paper (fingers to keys) and written a blog post. I’ve been taking a bit of a much needed social media hiatus of late – something that I recommend everyone does from time to time. Offline life is pretty cool you know, although there is a shortage of funny dog videos.
To get back on the blogging wagon I needed a topic that was a bit different. Something that has intrigued me for a little while has been the use of nootropics – you might have heard them referred to as “smart drugs” or cognitive enhancers. Essentially a supplement that helps to boost/support your cognitive abilities.
Regular readers will know that the one thing I can’t stand is marketing bullshit, products that have no benefit, or are gender-specific (when clearly it’s just a difference in packaging/branding). There’s WAY too many of them out there.
I avoid those brands like the plague, so that’s why I headed to Motion Nutrition. I’d used their products in the past and had been impressed with the overall quality, but I’m equally as impressed with their ethics as a business – transparency and focusing on products that have a genuine benefit.
Recently they’d launched two new nootropics which I was keen on getting my hands on:
Power Up which is designed to help improve focus and feeling in optimal mood all day long, while quietly helping your brain protect against degenerative diseases. I’m a big fan of that last point by the way. We need to look after our brains!
Unplug is designed as a de-stresser. It eases your mind, quell’s anxiety with traditional nootropic herbs which are scientifically combined with easily-digested micronutrients to protect your brain. Essentially they chill you out, and help you get a cracking sleep!
I ordered a month’s supply of Power Up, and received some sample packs of Unplug. A quick note on Unplug…I loved them. Each evening I took these I had some great sleeps, and didn’t feel overly shattered in the morning which I usually do waking up at 5:45am (to be honest I get tired thinking about it).
After a few days of taking Power Up I really started to notice a difference, after initial scepticism. While I didn’t quite turn into Bradley Cooper from Limitless, I definitely experienced an increase in my levels of concentration. The thing I really like is that they contain no caffeine or stimulants to help achieve that. Also as an FYI they’re gluten free, and suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
I don’t know about anybody else, but over the years I’d developed a nasty habit of sending out an email or two and then rewarding myself with a quick browse of Sky Sports or checking social media. I guess that can be part and parcel of being glued to a computer screen for eight hours a day. The fact that I was no longer doing that was a key indicator that Power Up was doing it’s thing.
I found myself staying focused and sending out email after email, getting stuck into projects, contributing more in meetings, and not getting distracted as quickly as Homer Simpson does.
I was so impressed that after using Power Up for a week I ordered two more month’s worth – I genuinely felt they made a difference to my work ethic. There’s not many products that I opt to use on a daily basis but these have quickly become one that I do.
There’s always likely to be sceptics, I still am to some degree on nootropics as a whole, but I experienced benefits from both of the products so can do nothing but recommend them. They’re well priced and the service from Motion Nutrition was really good too. You can pick up sample packs which are a great way to try them for yourself.
