Whether or not we like to admit it, we’re a nation of pill poppers. The aisles of supermarkets are crammed with them, and walking into any Holland and Barrett store can be like a magic mushroom trip with all the bright coloured and sparkly pots littered across the shelves. Probably worth pointing out that I don’t actually know what a magic mushroom trip is like, but I’ve seen enough movies to know my way around them.
At BodyPower this year, I got talking to Farooq Aslam, a qualified pharmacist with a passion performance, health and nutrition. It was a refreshing change from some of the mass marketed stands trying to ply you with shots of protein or pre-workout drinks. Why you’d want to neck a shot of stimulant packed pre-workout whilst walking around a hot and stuffy exhibition hall and trying to hold conversations is something that my caffeine-free brain can’t comprehend. We got chatting about a product his company – Vitamyn.
I found the concept pretty innovative and think that it certainly fills a gap in the market. It offers daily pre-packaged dosages of supplements which are vacuum pack sealed, and can be taken with you on the go.
I don’t know about you, but with my plethora of pills, it’s so frustrating when you run out of one thing but not the other. It’s a cycle that’s hard to get out of sometimes. There’s not always time to go to the shops to top up, you might be a bit skint, or Great British Bake Off might be on – all too often something gets in the way of you consistently having the same supplements day in, day out.
When it comes to supplementation, consistency is key, and that’s a message that Vitamyn really delivers. It will help to diarise your supplements, which you can then use alongside your training log to see how your body composition, strength, or energy levels have been affected. Remembering whether or not you took your supplements on a particular morning or afternoon is made a hell of a lot easier.
There’s 3 ways in which their product works. You can choose from a specific 28 day program, such as fat loss range which was developed with Ben Coomber.
As someone that travels regularly with work, the product suits me down to the ground. It eliminates the issue of having to cram 4 or 5 bottles into an already over-packed and bulging suitcase that has Ryanair check-in attendants quaking in their boots. If I’m just heading somewhere for a few nights, there’s a pretty cool carry case that can fit right into my man-bag. Look fellas, we all have man-bags…don’t we? DON’T WE?!
Vitamyn’s concept is something that I think would work for anyone that currently supplements with pills or capsules. The consistency factor is huge, in addition to being able to fully customise your supplements is something I’ve not seen anywhere else.
Great to see a company delivering that message and not being another box-shifting online wholesaler, as it’s something that all to often gets overlooked.
